January Calendar of Events

January 6th, 10:00—2:00 p.m. Take in for the BVAL Judged Show

January 6th—First Friday in downtown Bryan. Theme of Dress to the Nines. Have fun dressing up in your
finery and take the opportunity to visit the Forsythe Gallery before it returns to the A&M Campus, the new Square One Gallery with owner/exhibitor Jill Panke and of course don’t miss the Frame Gallery where many BVAL artists display their work.

January 7th, 12:30 p.m. Reception and Opening of Brazos Valley Art League/Lone Star Art Guild Judged Show The Brazos Valley Art League will be hosting the 2012 LSAG Judged Show, taking in art on January 6th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are five divisions (competition levels) with ten categories of art. The show will run January 7th through February 3rd. This exhibit is open to all artists.You do not have to be a member of BVAL to participate. The reception will be held at 12:30 p.m. on January 7th.

A prize of $600 will be awarded to Best in Show and $200 for Best of each Division. People attending the exhibit will have an opportunity to vote for The People’s Choice Award which will be announced at the conclusion of the exhibit. There is a $10 per entry for members, $20 for oversized entry (only one allowed and in professional
category only), $14 for non-members, and $5 for school students

JANUARY 9TH, (2nd Monday), 10:30 a.m. BVAL Board Meeting. Noon—BVAL General Meeting. Demo Artist—Dee Fabrizio Turner will provide a pastel demonstration. Dee's art has been featured at several Texas locations including: The Smith Art Gallery at Scott & White Hospital in Temple and The Antique Rose Emporium in Independence. Currently, some of her works may be viewed at the Holland Street Gallery in Bellville, Art C's Gallery in Somerville, The Market Place Gallery in Caldwell, as well as the Brenham Downtown Art Gallery. Dee is a teacher in demand for both pastel and watercolor classes and workshops. Don’t miss this opportunity to watch her demonstration.

January 11th—Wednesday Portrait and Figure Drawing/Painting Classes resume at the Frame Gallery. See

March 5, 2012: Cathy Schuster Art Talk/Demo on "Fine Art Presentation and Framing"

April 2, 2012: Monika Pate Watercolor Demo on Layering.
April 13-14, 2012: Monika Pate Watercolor Layering (Intermediate-level), 1 1/2 day Workshop (Friday - 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Saturday - 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)

May 2012: TBA Officer Installation Luncheon
May 22-23, 2012 : Carol Martin Oil Painting Workshop -- 9:30 set-up until 4 p.m. each day

Saturday -- June 2, 2012: Cheryl Walker Demo and Follow-Along One-Half Day Workshop (WC Collage Techniques) -- 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
