Please read qualifications of eligibility in the LSAG yearbook. All
entries must be original in concept - NO copies from either
published materials or original works of art. ONLY the artist may
work on a submission of art work. Submitted work is to have been
completed within 24 months of the show. Art work previously entered
in a BVAL or LSAG show is not eligible. Submissions will be judged
by the show committee for appropriateness.
Entry forms can be acquired
in one of these two options:
1) Fill out this
online form, print it, and then
bring it with your art works during the show registration day.
2) Get it at the BVAL office located at the Art Center during the
show registration day.
ELIGIBILITY
All entrants must reside within 200 miles of Houston. An artist may
have a maximum of three entries.
DIVISIONS AND CATEGORIES
Once an artist is established in one of the Artist Divisions, that
artist may move up to another division, but may never move down
regardless of any new art mediums worked in or submitted. If an
artist is moving up in an Artist Division, the artist will make that
change upon entering the first club show after the LSAG convention.
(Rule #96)
DIVISIONS - ARTISTS
I - Professional;
II - Semi-Professional;
III -Non-Professional - After two years of college art (4 courses),
or three years as an Adult Student, any LSAG member will
automatically be placed in the Non-Professional division. ( Rule
#9a)IV Adult Student - One who has painted, sculpted, etc., for less
than three years, (self study), or under the direction of a teacher.
The teacher may give any and all verbal assistance needed; however,
the teacher may not touch the artwork to be entered in a show.
Artists may compete in this division only three years.
CATEGORIES - ART WORKS
There will be ten (10) adult Art Categories within each Competition Level, which are generally separated by art types and medium used. Local leagues may exclude categories that do not receive art entries for the judging process. The following guidelines were written to assist artists in choosing an Art Category for artwork:
Category A: Painting, not under glass or Plexiglas – oil, acrylic, encaustic, varnished/sealed watercolor paintings, and other durable painting media, including minimal mixtures of painting media such as acrylics with archival ink
Category B: Painting, under glass or Plexiglas – acrylic, watercolor, egg tempera, ink painting, Sumi-e or Oriental brush painting, pastel painting, and other such painting media, including minimal mixtures of painting media such as acrylics or watercolor with ink details
Category C: Drawing – pencil, pen & ink, charcoal, scratchboard, pastel drawing, watercolor drawings, crayon, colored pencil, markers and other types or mixtures of mark-making
Category D: Mixed Media – 2D artwork displaying two or more types of media, including assemblage, collage, acrylic or watercolor painting on scratchboard drawings (beyond minimal treatment), and other mixed media
Category E: Photography – digital and film photography minimally altered through technology using standard darkroom (like dodging and burning, etc) and traditional photographic techniques
Category F: Digital Art – all forms of digital art, including photos that have been greatly manipulated through some digital format, presented as framed art or similar presentation
Category G: Sculpture – 3-D forms in various media, including bas relief
Category H: Non-objective Fine Art in any medium, including abstract or experimental work.
Category I: Traditional Printmaking – lithography, relief, intaglio, mono-print, screen-printing, reduction block printing, and other forms of very limited-edition (less than 10 prints), fine art printing -- not reproductions of original works
Category J: Studio Fine Crafts – strictly original fine crafts created in a studio environment such as glass blowing, stained glass, pottery, woodwork, jewelry, mosaic, weaving, fiber art, metal work, and other fine hand-crafting techniques; finely crafted items, often but not always created for utilitarian purposes.
*Note: Each artist decides in which category to place his or her work, with the advice of the member league’s show chairman when needed, unless all work is juried into the league’s LSAG show.
ARTISTIC REQUIREMENTS:
All entries must be ORIGINAL IN CONCEPT AND DESIGN. There will be no
copies from either published materials or original works of art. The
artists should use their pictures or photographs as reference only
for particular subjects to be portrayed if no other access to these
subjects is available. Only the artist may work on a piece of art
work. No patterns, kits, or molds may be used, with the exception of
bronze castings from the artist's original work.
Work entered is to have been
completed within 24 months of the show. Work previously entered in a
BVAL show or which has won a blue ribbon or best of show at another
LSAG Show is not eligible for entry in this show. Because the show
is intended as an exhibit for the general public, the show committee
reserves the right to refuse work, which in their opinion, is
obscene or offensive.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
All work to be hung shall be framed, complete with wire, ready for
hanging. An exception is made in the Other Art Category. This work
may be unframed if it is finished to the edge. No work over 15
pounds or larger than the width of a flat (38 inches - measured to
the outside of the frame) is allowed.
Those competing in the PROFESSIONAL Category will have the
option of submitting ONE over-sized 60” width painting or the three
standard sized paintings.
