Supply List
List of the supplies that will be used for the workshop; please and I suggest that you use your own watercolors and papers. I will list some colors below that I like to use. This means you may use the colors you already have and if you would like the colors I have that will be great. You, as a painter are very familiar with your colors and that can be a great asset.

Paper:
3 full sheets of watercolor paper -Winsor Newton or Arches 22 x 30” 140 lb. cold pressed paper.

Sketch book
Watercolor paper for practice work back side of old works

Paints:
I use Dan Smith or Winsor Newton. You may use any paint that is archival.

1. Winsor red
2. Permanent rose
3. Alizarin Crimson Permanent
4. Quinacridone gold
5. Cadmium Yellow light
6. Yellow Ochre
7. Thalo Green
8. Cobalt Blue
9. Thalo Blue

Brushes:
Brings your own brushes, you will need large ones, medium sizes and small round detail brushes. The brushes that I use that you may not have are the angled brushes. I have a 1”, ½ and a ¼ of these brushes. Robert Simmons makes them and they are called Angle shaders. Golden also makes them and they are called shaders. You should chose the size that you think you would like or use the most. It is an excellent blending brush for smooth edges in objects that are soft.

Palette:
You can you the palette that works best for you. If you are new to watercolor you can even use a paper plate. Mine is a folding palette by Holbien.

Other Supplies:
#2 pencil or a mechanical pencil #7 or 9 is what I use. Metal ruler (to tear the paper) 12-18” is a good size. Eraser, white plastic water containers (2) White Misket (optional), Viva Paper Towels old brush for the misket (optional)

Photos:
Please bring your own photos or photos from a magazine of faces. These should be old, young, babies, different skin colors and a photo that you really love. Your own photo would be the best to use. A dramatic use of light or shadow will give you the best learning situation for the portrait. A frontal view is usual easier. A learning situation painting portraits is an opportunity to use old masters or magazines these may contain better light and shadow situations than your own photos. A painting done from someone else’s photo cannot be used in a juried competition.
